The Nature of Arp

Portrait ofJean (Hans) Arp, About 1926 | Courtesy of Stiftung Arp e.V., Berlin / Rolandswerth

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is home to La Natura di Arp (The Arp Nature), an exhibition curated by Catherine Craft and organized by the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, which after the American premiere brings to Venice a fascinating retrospective on the long career of the Franco-German artist Hans Jean Arp (1886 - 1966). Famous for his experimental approach to creation and the revolution of traditional art forms, Arp occupies a special place in the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, having been his first purchase by the American patron: the Head and Shell sculpture (Tête et coquille) of 1933. To date there are seven works by Arp belonging to the Venetian museum, all exhibited on the occasion of the exhibition.
