The Restless Muses. The Biennale in the Face of History

The exhibition hosted in the Central Pavilion of the Giardini della Biennale is curated for the first time by all the directors of the six artistic sectors who have worked together to retrace those moments through the unique sources of the Biennale Archive and other national and international archives, where the Biennale and the history of the twentieth century are intertwined in Venice. Cecilia Alemani (Art), Alberto Barbera (Cinema), Marie Chouinard (Dance), Ivan Fedele (Music), Antonio Latella (Theater), Hashim Sarkis (Architecture) drew not only on the materials of the historical archive of the Biennale and of the Istituto Luce-Cinecittà and Rai Teche, but also to the documents of the archives of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, the Modena Visual Arts Foundation, the Ugo Mulas Archive, Aamod-Audiovisual Archive Foundation of the Labor and Democratic Movement, the Cameraphoto Arte Venezia Archive, IVESER Istituto Veneziano for the History of the Resistance and of Contemporary Society, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Ugo and Olga Levi Foundation, Experimental Center of Cinematography Rome, Tate Modern London.
