Thanks to the two installations commissioned by TBA21 – Academy for Ocean Space as part of the biennial exhibition cycle The Soul Expanding Ocean curated by Chus Martínez, the Ocean expresses itself as a repository of colonial stories whose narratives intertwine past, present and future. The stories of the immensity of the seas are entrusted to their own inhabitants, microorganisms and algae that coexist in them since the beginning of evolution, rocks, voices, images moving like waves, to the earth that preserves their memories and the substance of their actions, past that have compromised life in several ways. Together, Dineo Seshee Bopape's work, Ocean! What if no Change is Your Desperate Mission, and the work of Diana Policarpo, Ciguatera, accompany the visitor in an experience that wants to break the crystalline and immutable separation that divides nature and culture, culture and myth, science and faith, following the program of TBA21 – Academy in its proposition of a systemic understanding of the structures and cycles of nature in relation to art and culture, which aims to recover the space for a speculative thought on the ecological future of the planet.
