PROUN. Franc Vecchiet

PROUN. Franc Vecchiet

The exhibition hosted in the SG Gallery of the International School of Graphics in Venice revolves around the dominant theme of engraving, a subject that Franc Vecchiet taught in the School itself for many years, having the good fortune to meet highly talented artists, engravers and scholars. The exhibited works belong to different moments of his career as a graphic engraver and teacher and are performed with different techniques ranging from classic to contemporary, up to important insights into the relationship of engraving with the other arts. Vecchiet dedicates his project to the experience of Proun made by El Lissitzky in the early 20s of the Twentieth Century, with the intention of recalling a time one hundred years ago, in which some artists felt the need to decisively renew the language of art. Vecchiet's master, Augusto Cernigoj was at the Bauhaus at the time, just when El Lissitzky, together with other artists, was in Berlin inaugurating the exhibition entitled Proun, a word whose meaning is not yet fully known, even though most scholars think it means “for the school of the new art”.
